Why are economizers used in boilers?

Hii,
This post is specifically for Mechanical engineering students studying power plant engineering. You must have a knowledge of boilers, turbines, condenser and feed pumps and of course cooling towers. But have you come across the term economizers.Well of course you would have. Now I will explain why it is used.Bassicaly it is an accessory and not main component but has a huge impact on the life of boilers.Well after condensation when the water is sent back to boiler via feed pump its temperature is considerably low as compared to boiling temperature so it is needed to send this water after giving it heat so that after entering boiler it does not take much time to be heated. Thus it is passed through economizer to increase its temp before entering boiler. This saves lot of fuel which would have been needed without economizer. So it is economical to use economizer. Now you must have got the point why it is called so.Another benefit of using economizer is that it prevents cracking of boiler which would have been caused due to temp difference between boiler and cold water coming from feedpump in absence of economizer.

Sci-fi WH

Hey all,  Consider two points A and B separated at a distance of say 5 cm in a piece of paper. If you were to reach point B from A you need to cover 5cm distance. But what if you wrap the paper in such a way that point A and B intersect. Then it becomes a shortcut right. This is exactly the concept behind worm holes. Due to the fabric nature of space-time this can be assumed that we can enter from past to future and vice versa through these holes known as worm holes created due to rupture in space time fabric due to movement of celestial bodies including planets. Time is a man made straight dimension but in our universe time is not moving forward rather everything is happening at the moment. It is like a 3hrs Bollywood movie being watched in a DVD where the time period for movie or event is fixed and we can go backwards and forward. Similarly events occuring in universe are fixed and we can rewind or move ahead using worm holes.  This concept is hypothetical based on journals ...

Resonant frequency

Hello physics lovers, All of you must have heard the word resonance once in high school physics books. If not then today you would know.Well we all know that any object having swinging motion will have a frequency associated with it.Not only swinging object but any sort of vibration or sound will have frequency. This means frequency can be Mechanical, accoustical etc.so frequency is nothing but number of oscillations made in a particular time,si unit Hertz. Now what happens is that when the external frequency applied on an object matches with natural frequency of that object it vibrates with maximum amplitude. It can be catastrophic in practical situations. This is the reason why a troop of army personnel having March on a bridge are said to walk abruptly without matching the March of other members. This is because if the frequency of the army personnel matches with the natural frequency of bridge it would collapse. You would be astonished to know while traveling if your heartbeat matches wi...

What happens when you leave your charger on after your phone is charged completely?

Hey guys, It's very common that we forget to switch off the main supply when our phone is charged. We leave it on.Now the question is whether there is any power consumption.Theoritically if there is no load there should be no power consumption. But still the charger consumes very minimum amount of energy because the primary winding of the transformer consumes electricity and this is the reason why the charger gets heated after some time.So if this thing happens for few times it's ok but if it is kept on for larger period of time then power consumed is considerable. So make it a habit to turn the mains off once your phone or laptop is charged up.
